CORDOVA, Ill. — Ruth M. Shackelford, 80, of Cordova, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will be in Cordova Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Cordova, where she was a member.Mrs. Shackelford was born August 28, 1927, in Benton Co., Iowa, the daughter of Homer and Eliza Hurst Glass. She married Raymond Shackelford on June 3, 1946, in New Orleans, LA. She had been an elementary school teacher for 30 years having taught at the Davenport School District and the Clinton School District where she retired in 1989. Mrs. Shackelford was a lifetime member of the National Education Association. She enjoyed playing bridge, scrapbooking and fishing.Survivors include her husband, daughters and sons-in-law, Connie Eckermann and Jim Stratton, Cordova, and Pamela and Terry Barber, Erie; 3 grandchildren, 3 stepgrandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 5 stepgreat-grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dot Glass, Vinton, IA, and a brother-in-law, Alvin Witt, Dysart, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Patricia Witt.Death date: May 3, 2008
