DEWITT — Gertrude M. Schaumberg, 90, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, died peacefully on Sunday, April 27th, 2008, at the Alverno Healthcare Facility in Clinton, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, 2008, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeWitt, Iowa, with Reverend H. Robert Harness presiding at the Mass. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the funeral with a rosary recited at 9:30 A.M. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery at Villa Nova following the luncheon. Pallbearers will be Joe, Jim, Carol, and Camilla McGuire, Mark Roode and Ben Montez. Memorials may be designated to The Alverno Healthcare Facility or Mt. Mercy School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids. Nelson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Gertrude (McGuire) Schaumberg was born in rural Elvira, Iowa, on July 11th, 1917, the daughter of Thomas F. and Margaret J. McManus McGuire. Following high school she attended Mt. Mercy School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids graduating in 1940 and remained an alumnus of Mt. Mercy throughout her life. She married Henry Schaumberg in 1944 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He died in 1967. She was employed for the Doctor’s Hospital in Milwaukee for 24 years until relocating to this area where she was employed for Mercy Hospital in Davenport from 1965 until her retirement in 1978. Mrs. Schaumberg’s memberships included St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, DeWitt, Iowa, Altar and Rosary Society, D.C.C.W., Moose Lodge, Mercy Associates, Veronica Guild and AARP. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Emma (Thomas A.) McGuire, Peoria, Illinois; Her beloved niece and friend, Karen Roode, and her other nieces include Lolita (John) Dierickx, Rosemary (Lorin) Meade, Carol McGuire, Camilla McGuire, Becky (Bruce) Van Houten, Debbie Decker, Marilyn Cross, Margaret (Ben) Montez and nephews, James (Joan) McGuire and Joseph (Dee) McGuire. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Margaret McGuire; her husband, Henry; 6 brothers, John J., Leonard, Thomas E., Francis, Edward and Thomas A.; 3 sisters, Mary Etta McGuire, Venona McGuire and Alice Fellers; 2 nieces, Teresa Krogman and Margaret Linehan; and a nephew, John T.
