THOMSON, Ill. — Robert “Bob” W. Miller, age 83, of Thomson, Illinois, passed away April 23, 2008, in Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. Bob was born December 9, 1924, the son of Fred and Minnie (Weber) Miller in Thomson. He was a graduate of Thomson High School, class of 1942 and awarded an Illinois State Farmer Degree. On January 27, 1945, he married Arla Brown at the Albany, Illinois, Methodist Parsonage by Reverend Doverspike. The ceremony was a double wedding with Lauren (Joe) Mitchell and LeVona Potter, presently of Geneseo, Illinois. For sixty-three years the couples have remained close friends and celebrated milestone anniversaries together. Bob began his lifelong farming career in Thomson, raising melons, before moving to Lanark in 1955 where he also farmed. His health forced him to retire from active farming in 1982, but he continued to be interested in farming. During his retirement years his main hobby was gardening. In 1996, Bob and Arla left the farm and moved back to Thomson. He immensely enjoyed hosting the annual “1942” class reunion in his home. Bob will be deeply missed by his wife, Arla, of Thomson; two daughters, Janie (John) Dollinger of Shannon, Illinois, and Peggy (John) Richard of Polo, Illinois; one son, David (fiancee‚ Beth Tenerelli) of Bloomingdale, Illinois; one grandson, Mark (Shanna) Dollinger of Lanark; one great-grandson, Cooper J. Dollinger; and many nieces and nephews. Bob is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Fred J. Miller. A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, April 26,2008, in the Fireside Room, “which Bob helped build” at Lanark United Methodist Church, Lanark, Illinois. A private family inurnment will be held at a later time.
