DEWITT — Richard “Rick” Hunsicker, 66, DeWitt, Iowa, died on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt, Campus. Richard resided in DeWitt and spent many years in our community. Because his family lacked knowledge and ability to care for his seizure disorder he was placed in the Woodward Facility at the age of 9, and later in the Community Care Facility in Charlotte and lastly to his residence in DeWitt. With the supervision and assistance of Community Care, Inc. and Dr. Peter Laureijs and his staff Richard was able to maintain a higher level of independence, independence that was so important to him. Richard was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on March 2, 1942, the son of Claude and Margaret Hunsicker. He was employed most recently at DAC doing piece work, and involved in a recreational program until recently retiring. Visitation will be on Monday, April 28th, 2008, at The DeWitt Evangelical Free Church, 1921 Elmwood Avenue, from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. with a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, Iowa. Memorials may go to Community Care Inc., DAC or DeWitt Evangelical Free Church.Survivors include his friends “family” at Community Care, Inc. and his guardian, Martin Guppy, Clinton, Iowa, and a sister, Claudia Hunsicker Barbee, Guilford, Connecticut.He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother.
