CLINTON — Elizabeth M. “Betty” Huyck, age 77, of Clinton, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Mercy Medical Skilled Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 5th, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 309 30th Ave. No. in Clinton. The Rev. Dr. Jeremy Brigham will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Robert Seger, Joe Dean, Brian Crosser, Don Majors, Jim Norman and Steven Parker. Betty was born on March 31, 1930, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Harold O. and Florence Elizabeth MacKenzie Taft. She graduated from high school and Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, MI. Betty married Richard E. Huyck at the Universalist Church in Muncie, IN, on December 29, 1956. Betty was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. She was a member of the Clinton Humane Society where she had served as a board member. Betty was an animal activist who was very active in animal welfare groups such as H.S.U.S., A.P.I., PETA and the International Fund for Animal Welfare. Betty is survived by her husband, Richard, of Clinton; and her special family, Cheryl Smith and Ryann Smith of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Teresa Huyck on February 4th of this year; and her brother, William.Death date: March 1, 2008
