DE WITT — Mrs. Edna Simoni, DeWitt, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, was called to her Lord on February 28, 2008 at Westwing Place, DeWitt. A Memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness presiding. Friends may call from 2 until 5 p.m. Monday at the church. Per her wishes visitation and funeral services will be held in Sioux City. Visitation will be held at Meyer Brothers Funeral Home, Sioux City, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2008 with a prayer service to follow. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Sioux City. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials may be designated to Westwing Place or Genesis Hospice of Clinton County. The oldest grandchild from each family has been chosen to be a pallbearer. They include, Jeff Simoni, Mike McManamy, Ron Simoni, II, Josh Beard, Garic Purcell, Shannon Dobias, Ryan Eberhart, Kasie Zimmerman and Robert Ashmore. Edna was born in Dixon, Nebraska to George and Walburga (McCloud) Boeshart on April 25, 1918. She was raised on a family farm and attended country school near Ponca, Nebraska. She married Tony J. Simoni in South Sioux City, Nebraska, in 1940. During the 1960’s Edna relocated to DeWitt, Iowa. She was employed with the DeWitt Community Hospital and later the Davenport Osteopathic Hospital as an Inhalation Therapist. After her children were raised she returned to Sioux City, Iowa to be closer to her oldest son Tony, her siblings and in-laws. While living in Sioux City, Edna was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Due to her severe hearing loss, she was one of the original candidates in Iowa to receive a hearing dog (Lego) sponsored by the DeWitt Noon Lions. Edna was an advocate for the Hearing Impaired and spoke for many years to organizations to help educate the public on the importance of living with a hearing dog. She was a talented seamstress and loved to knit, crochet, bake, dance and was also an avid reader. She adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, plus, her numerous nieces and nephews. Anyone who spent more than two hours with her was considered part of her family. For many years while raising her own eight children she found enough love in her heart to raise several foster children. Edna became a resident of Westwing Place, DeWitt, Iowa in 2005. She was a deeply religious person and belonged to Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeWitt. Surviving are her eight children, Tony (Judi) Simoni, Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, Ron (Kay) Simoni, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Michaeleen (Michael) Beard, Eugene, Oregon, Jean (Jerry) Purcell, DeWitt, Theresa (John) Mumm, Omaha, Nebraska, Cathy (Dan) Eberhart, DeWittt, Ted Simoni and Carlos Simoni, Davenport, Iowa; special family members, Earl (Char) Ashmore, Sioux City, and Mike (Barb) Loncar, Fulton, Illinois; plus twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren and one more on the way. Her sisters and in-laws, Pearl (Bill) Snyder, Allen, Nebraska, Frank Simoni, Stevensonville, Maryland, Peggy Giudice, Rita Boeshart and Angie Simoni all of Sioux City. She was preceded in death by a young daughter, Karmalita Lucia "Karna Lee", a grandson, Anthony Simoni III, parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Aldeen Boeshart, a brother Phillip Boeshart, a brother-in-law Thomas Giudice, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joseph and Vera Simoni.
