FULTON, Ill. — Sebert J. Dykstra, 90, of Fulton, died Thursday at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Fulton, with Rev. Len Meinema , Pastor of Bethel Christian Reformed Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton. Casket bearers will be David Bielema, Jason, Bielema, Phillip Bielema, Eric Berns, Scott Eggers, Ben Eshelman. Sebert was born September 16, 1917, in Thomson, Ill., to Joseph and Kate (Buikema) Dykstra. He was educated in Thomson grade schools and attended Thomson High School, Thomson. He married Wilma G. Buikema on September 18, 1940, in Fulton. She died March 28, 2007.He served in the United States Navy SeaBees.Sebert was employed at Allied Steel, Clinton, and was the owner of the Fulton Body Shop until 1956. He also owned and operated Sebert’s DX/Sunoco in Fulton until 1980. He had also served as the custodian for Unity Grade School. He was a charter member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Fulton, where he taught Sunday school, served as elder and deacon, and was one of the founders of the Cadet Club. He was a member of the American Legion Post #402 in Fulton. Sebert was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.He is survived by two daughters, Ruth A. (Mrs. Roger) Eshelman, Morrison, and Sandie Kay (Mrs. Russell) Bielema, Fulton; one son, Donald S. (Sheila) Dykstra, Fulton; nine grandchildren: Andrea (Mrs. Scott) Eggers, Liz (Mrs. Eric) Berns, Samantha Dykstra, Ben Eshelman, Sarah Hawk, Philip (Julie) Bielema, Jason (Christine) Bielema, David Bielema and Amber Bielema; five great-grandchildren: Siara and Angelyca Hawk, Lara Bielema, Breanna and Emily Eggers; and one sister, Kathryn (Mrs. Clarence) Huizenga of Fulton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; two brothers, John E. Dykstra and Allen Dykstra; and one sister, Gertrude Nelson. Memorials may be made to Unity Christian Schools and Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Fulton.Death date: Feb. 28, 2008
