DEWITT — Mr. Raymond F. Lowe, 98, DeWitt, Iowa, died Monday afternoon, February 11, 2008, at Crestridge Care Center, Maquoketa. Raymond Fredrick Lowe was born July 19, 1909, in Edgington, Illinois, to Charles Theodore and Edna Alma (Bognar) Lowe. On July 19, 1933, Ray was united in marriage to the former Ida Margaret Strayer in Spring Valley, Illinois. They moved to DeWitt, in 1938. Ray worked for several of the automobile dealerships in DeWitt. He and his wife began their own business, DeWitt Auto Body Shop in 1941, with Ida serving as secretary. They retired in 1972 and continued to reside in DeWitt. He was active in church and community functions. As a member of the United Methodist Church, DeWitt, Ray served in various offices, including the new church planning committee. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a former city councilman and school board member. He and Ida enjoyed golfing and were members of Springbrook Country Club where Ray was a past president. He enjoyed his family, yard work and maintaining their home. Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 75 years, Ida; a daughter, Joyce Knight, DeWitt; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Sharon Lowe, Colorado City, Colorado; grandchildren, David Knight, Davenport, Richard (Lindy) Knight, Anaheim, California, Joel (Joni) Knight, Howe, Texas, Carol (fiancé Allen Kunde), Clinton, Iowa, Carla Sagers (significant other, Troy Kuntz), Maquoketa, Michael (Shawanna) Lowe and Cori (Steve) Collie, Wichita, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Melissa (Dan) Davis and the late Ashley Miller, Nathain (Deb) Sagers, Monica Sagers, Stephan Sagers; three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his great-granddaughter, Ashley, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold; sisters, Vera and Helen and a grandson, Edward. The family will receive friends at the United Methodist Church, DeWitt, from 10:00 until 11:15 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the church. The Rev. Chuck Kelsey will officiate. All are invited to a luncheon to be served in the church hall. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials may be designated to the United Methodist Church, DeWitt. Pallbearers will be David and Joel Knight, Nathan and Stephan Sagers, Allen Kunde and Troy Kuntz.
