The Clinton Herald Monday September 7, 1987 p. 12 John D. McElroy, 67, of Route 1, died Friday in University Hospital, Iowa City. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Cannon Funeral Home with the Rev. David Petersen, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche, officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today. Burial will be in Clinton Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arnold Andersen, John Brandenburg, David Cousins, Henry Henningsen, Donald Shockey and Cyril Stamp. Mr. McElroy was born Aug. 26, 1920, at Sabula, to Dell and Carrie Laing McElroy. He married Arlene Bott, March 5, 1945, in Riverside, Calif. He retired from farming in 1970 and from E.I. DuPont in 1985. he was a World War II U.S. Air Force Navigator, a member of American Legion Spencer Post No. 667, Miles; Loyal Order of Moose No. 363, Clinton; and the Izaak Walton League. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Phillip (Lorna) Ohsann of Clinton, and Mrs. Joe (Luanne) Carstensen of Camanche; two sons, Larry of Camanche, and John A. of Clinton; six grandchildren; and a brother, Ross, of Sabula.
