The Clinton Herald Thursday September 18, 2003 p. 9A Benjamin Arthur Greve, 76 of Bryant, Iowa, died Monday, September 15 at Genesis West Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2003 at the Miles Presbyterian Church in Miles, Iowa. Pastor William Warhover will officiate. Burial will be in the MIles Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Audra Rowson, Angela Rowson-Boyle, Chad Rowson, Brett Greve, Troy Greve, Jennifer Sapin, Danika Spain, Shawna Spain, Bradley Spain, Lindsey Hansen, Marty Hansen, Kayla Shirk and Emma Shirk. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2003 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston, Iowa and after 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Church. Ben was born December 30, 1926 in Teeds Grove, Iowa, to Arthur and Ida (Huebner) Greve. He married Mary Ellen Meyer on January 30, 1949 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Preston. They have been married for over 54 years. Ben began farming with his Uncle Dilman and Aunt Amanda Wilson. Ben and Mary Ellen were engaged in farming near Bryant all their married life. Ben was a member of the Miles Presbyterian Church, Andover Lyons Club, Clinton County Farm Bureau, Masonic Lodge of Bellevue and many other various organizations. He was a 4-H Leader for the Miles Baby Beef for many years, a member of the Clinton County Fair Board and was recently inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame. In 1944, he whowed the World's Champion Hereford Steer in Chicago, Illinois. Ben enjoyed farming, playing cards, fishing and being with his grandkids. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen, one son, David (Joanie) Greve of Bryant, Ia.; four daughters, Janis Greve, DeWitt, Ia., Mrs. Julene (Perry) Spain of Goose Lake, Ia., Mrs. Judi (Scott) Hansen of Clinton, Ia., Mrs. Janet (Ben) Shirk of Washburn, Ia.; thirteen grandchildren, Audra Rowson, Angie Rowson-Boyle, Chad Rowson, Brett Greve, Troy Greve, Jennifer Spain, Danika Spain, Shawna Spain, Bradley Spain, Lindsey Hansen, Marty Hansen, Kayla Shirk and Emma Shirk. Ben is also survived by five sisters, Jeanette Gruhn of Miles, Ia., Alice Kroeger of Clinton, Ia., Visetta Leonard of Sabula, Ia., Yvonne Meier of Bellevue, Ia., Donna Galusha of Bryant, Ia., two brothers, Lester Greve of Sabula, Ia., Willis Greve of Bryant, Ia.; two aunts, Clara Hagge of Clinton, Ia., and Norma Greve of Bettendorf, Ia. Ben was preceded in death by two sons, Duane and Durward Greve, his parents, three brothers, Gary, LeRoy and Richard Greve, aunts, uncles and a niece and two nephews.
