The Clinton Herald Thursday April 27, 1939 p. 8 Charles E. Dixon, 72, 332 Sixth avenue, South, prominent many years in the business and social life of Clinton, died early today after a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, the Rev. Thomas Horton, pastor of St. John's Episcopal church, officiating. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery. Mr. Dixon was born July 1, 1866, in Clinton, the son of James and Margaret Dixon. He was graduated from Clinton High school and his first employment was as ticket agent for the North Western railroad in Clinton. He later became city passenger agent for the Wisconsin Central Railway in St. Paul, Minn., and subsequently, was district passenger agent for the Canadian Pacific Railway with headquarters in St. Paul. After the death of his father, Mr. Dixon returned to Clinton and had made his home here since. He became associated in December, 1898, with J.B. Stewart who at that time was editor of the Clinton Evening Journal and a partnership was formed in 1900 which endured until the death of Mr. Dixon. Mr. Dixon managed the Clinton theater 28 years until 1930 when Dixon and Stewart surrendered the lease on that property and since that time he devoted his entire attention to the outdoor advertising business of Dixon and Stewart, and enterprise in which the firm enbarked in 1901. During the time he managed the Clinton theater, Mr. Dixon gained an extremely wide acquainitance in the theatrical world and his collection of autographed photos of stage luminaries of the golden era of the American theater probably is unrivalled in the middle west. Mr. Dixon, who never married, is survived by a sister, Mrs. D.F. White, Moline, Ill.; two nieces, Mrs. Ottomar Korn, Davenport, and Mrs. J.G. Otto, Moline, and two nephews, H.H. Hansell, Chicago, and Charles Dixon, Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, W.H. Dixon, and two sisters, Mrs. George D. McDaid and Mrs. William Hansell.
