Calvin Upton 1830 - 1895

The Clinton Daily Herald Saturday May 18, 1895 p. 3 Calvin Upton, one of the pioneers of Clinton and a well-known builder, died at 4 o'clock this morning at his home, No. 323 Second avenue, aged about 65 years. Death resulted from consumption. Calvin Upton was a native of North Reading, Mass. In that state he learned the trade of a stone mason. After reaching manhood he emigrated to Iowa and came to Clinton in the year 1855 and engaged in the building with his brother. They have erected some of the best buildings in the city, and have also done considerable contracting and building for the C. & N.W. railroad here and on the line of road at Boone and Dunlap. The arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made.
