LOST NATION — Duane E. Rutenbeck, 87, of Lost Nation, died Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Clover Ridge Place in Maquoketa following a brief illness. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. His family has honored his request and his body will be cremated after the services. Memorials may be given to Camp Wyoming. Duane Eldean Rutenbeck was born on August 18, 1920, in Clinton County, Iowa, son of Albert and Alma (Gohlmann) Rutenbeck. He graduated from Elwood High School in 1938. He married Velma Crosthwaite on March 25, 1972, in Lost Nation, Iowa. She preceded him in death on April 9, 1998. He farmed all of his life in Clinton County. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church in Lost Nation. He was active in the Lost Nation community, serving on many community and civic groups. He served as mayor in Lost Nation from 1989 to 1994, served on the Iowa Economic Development Council in 1986 and was a co-founder of Camp Wyoming.He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Don) Graaff of Ellensburg, Washington, and Nancy Rutenbeck, of Tacoma, Washington; one son, David (Diana) Rutenbeck of Maquoketa; 3 stepdaughters, Donna (Merle) Tank of Oxford Junction, Marilou (John) Skinner of Lowden and Karen (Dana) Alitz of Lost Nation; 2 grandsons, 14 stepgrandchildren, several stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, Eldon (Laurabelle) Rutenbeck of Maquoketa; and a sister-in-law, Dolores Rutenbeck of Maquoketa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister in infancy, one brother and a stepdaughter.Online condolences may be left for the family at www.laheys.com.Death date: Feb. 2, 2008
