The Clinton Herald Monday June 25, 1906 p. 8 Edwin Wells Coan, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Coan, passed away at Colorado Springs on Saturday evening at 7:30 o'clock. Edwin was stricken with tuberculosis last December; five weeks ago, accompanied by his mother he left for Colorado Springs hoping that the change might be beneficial, and so it seemed, but a severe hemorrhage suddenly terminated his life. He was surrounded by his mother, two sisters and a brother when the end came. The other children, Isabel, Katherine and Folwell had gone to Colorado Springs intending to spend the summer with their brother and mother, and arrived in that city at four o'clock in the afternoon Saturday. He was twenty-one years of age the 26th of May just passed, was born here in Clinton but had during the past two years spent the greater part of the time in the north. His ambitions were not for a professional career, but rather to become a successful business man, and with that aim in view, he had begun to learn the lumbering business, beginning at the very lowest round of the ladder, encouraged and advised by his grandfather, the late E.P. Wells. He was working his way upward with bright promise of success before him when ill health caused the laying aside of his duties. One of the strongest characteristics of this young man, who was taken before he could prove to the world his asserting manhood was his love and deference toward elderly people. He was courteous, thoughtful and lovable, and the hearts of many friends are warm with sympathy for the bereaved family. The remains arrived in Clinton this afternoon, coming from Davenport on a special car over the I. and I. the party coming from Colorado Springs to Davenport and arriving at twelve o'clock today over the Rock Island route. Funeral services will probably be head at the home on Fifth avenue, Wednesday, but the hour has not yet been determined.
