Bidwell Gage 1837-1891

The Clinton Daily Herald Wednesday February 4, 1891 After a continued attack of dropsy for some years, Mr. Bidwell Gage at last was overcome by the disease and death resulted this morning about 3 o'clock. He had been very low for some time but at last advices had appeared to be improving: however, yesterday about 11 o'clock he began to fail, dying at the time stated at his residence in this city. The deceased leaves a widow and three children, Frank, Carrie and Myra, and one brother, James P. Gage, of Clinton. Probably no one is better known in this section of the country than Bidwell Gage, who had lived here since 1854, coming from Burlington, Ont., first, to Jackson county, and shortly afterwards removing to Lyons. He had been especially active in business circles, and was cashier of the Farmers and Citizen's Bank, of Clinton, up to the time of his retirement form active business a few years ago. He was a warm-hearted, generous man, and made hosts of friends by his genial and winning ways. Bidwell Gage was born August 25th 1837, in Burlington, Ontario, coming directly from that place to this section of the country. The funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 o'clock, at the residence on S. Fifth street.
