DEWITT — Ruth (Mrs. Clarence) Rock, 93, DeWitt, Iowa, formerly of Grand Mound, Iowa, died Monday morning, January 28, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt. Ruth Rock was born August 26, 1914, to Emil and Dora (Rusch) Fellner on her grandparents farm near Grand Mound. Ruth grew up in Grand Mound and graduated from Grand Mound High School in 1933 where she was in band and played on the girls basketball team. She later graduated from Brown’s Business College. On September 18, 1941, she married Clarence Rock at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death in December 1992. Clarence and Ruth farmed in rural Grand Mound all their married life. In 1979, they moved to Ruth’s family’s century farm in Grant Township. Ruth moved to Amber Ridge Assisted Living Center, DeWitt, in November 2002. She enjoyed reading and listening to sports, especially the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye basketball. She was a member of the TAC, a neighborhood card club, and enjoyed playing bingo with her friends at Amber Ridge. Ruth was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Grand Mound. She had served as an officer of the Evergreen Cemetery Association, Grand Mound. She is survived by her son, Stanley (Marjorie) Rock of Grand Mound; her daughter, Bonnie (Tim) Hansen of DeWitt; grandchildren, William Rock and fiancee, Katie Petersen, of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Elizabeth Rock of Brooklyn, New York. She is also survived by a cousin, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Fellner. A brother, Melvin Fellner, died in infancy. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2008. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008, in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Grand Mound, with the Rev. Chuck Kelsey and the Rev. Susen LaBlanc presiding. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound. Pallbearers will be Russell Rock, Paul Rock, Mark Haack, Don Allen, Bill Anderson and William Rock.
