CLINTON — Dr. Eugene (Bud) Bowker, 75, of Clinton, Iowa, died Thursday at his home. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church, Clinton. There will be no visitation. Cremation rites will be accorded. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Dr. Bowker (Bud) was born February 18, 1932 in LeClaire, Iowa, the son of Clarence F. and Alma (Hamilton) Bowker. After the death of his mother, he was raised by his stepmother, Velma (Dodds) Bowker. Dr. Bowker was educated in LeClaire schools, graduated from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree. He then entered the University of Iowa School of Dentistry, where he earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Following graduation, he served his country in the Navy, under the command of the Marine Corp., serving in Japan. On September 10, 1960, he married Shirley Sinnett in Kansas City, Kansas. Together they moved to Clinton and started his dental practice. After 38 years he retired due to bad health. His greatest pleasures were attending all University of Iowa games, playing golf, and taking pride in his backyard sanctuary, where at one time he had over one hundred rose bushes that he tended. He had a great sense of humor, and loved his family and friends. As his health failed, he enjoyed watching the birds in his backyard, waiting each spring for the return of the Hummingbirds and the Orioles, taking pleasure in putting out sugar water, oranges and grape jelly. The family still laughs about the time one of the Orioles appeared to have a broken wing. He took it to the veterinarian, only to find out the bird just needed a bath as its wing was caked with grape jelly. Dr. Bowker was a fifty-year member of the Iowa Dental Association and the I Club. He was a member of LeClaire American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Shirley, sons, Gregory of Grand Island, Neb. and Kevin of Des Moines, three grandchildren, a brother, Kenneth (Lea) of Argo, IA and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Clinton, or Clinton Mercy Hospice.
