CLINTON — Arlene F. Shanafelt, 88, of Clinton, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2008, at First United Methodist Church with Dennis Glew officiating. Burial will be in the Lower York Cemetery, rural Thomson, Illinois. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Arlene F. Forth was born on December 3, 1919, in Fenton, Illinois, the daughter of Daniel and Edna Hawk (Forth). She married Lyle “Red” Shanafelt on November 28, 1940, in Clinton, Iowa; he later died on June 10, 1996. She was a graduate of Erie High School and was a homemaker. Arlene was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed fishing with her family in northern Wisconsin and also shelling on the beach at Marco Island, Florida. She also enjoyed gardening and her 2 cats. Arlene is survived by her son, Jeffery Shanafelt of Clinton and her daughter, Debra (Michael) Diko of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. The family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, Clinton.
