The Clinton Herald Tuesday November 15, 1927 p. 12 One of the largest funerals that has been held in this vicinity was that of Mrs. C.J. Gluesing, when relatives and frinds from Clinton, Bryant, Davenport, Welton, Delmar, Calamus and Grand Mound and vicinity came to pay their last marks of respect to one of the oldest and most revered citizens in this vicinity. The services were held at the home of a daughter of the deceased. Mrs. Ferdinand Wilslef, at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon by A.T. Albert, of Davenport. Selections were sung by Mrs. Mae McGinnis and Mrs. Hazel Gostick. The following six grandsons of the deceased were pallbearers: Arthur Greve, Raymond Gleusing, John Greve, Arnold Gluesing, Virtus Greve and Lloyd Gluesing. The floral offerings were in charge of granddaughters, Mrs. Ronald Kessler, Bertha Greve, Frances Gluesing and Goldie Mueller. The body was laid to rest beside that of her husband in the family lot in Elmwood cemetery. Agatha Maria Levsen was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, June 29, 1848, and at the age of four years came to America with her parents, one sister and three brothers, landing at Davenport, Iowa. She grew to young womanhood in this community, receiving her education at the public schools at Lyons. February 18, 1869, she was united in marriage to C.J. Gluesing, who preceded her in death 16 years ago. Left to mourn a kind and loving mother are ten children, all of whom attended the funeral, with the exception of Mrs. Timms, whose husband is ill. The children are Mrs. William Timms, of Sioux City; Mrs. Louis Weise and Fred Gluesing, of Huron, S.D.; Joohn Gluesing, of Rosewell, S.D.; Mrs. Reinhart Mueller, of Calamus; Mrs. William Weston, of West Union; Mrs. Claus Greve, Henry Gluesing, Claus Gluesing and Mrs. Ferdinand Wilslef, all of DeWitt; also 32 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gluesing made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Wilslef, where she passed peacefully away Thursday morning, November 10.
