The Clinton Daily Herald Tuesday August 4, 1891 At 5th o'clock last evening was ended the life on this earth of William Vosburg, death occurring at his late residence on Sixth avenue. He had been a great invalid for a number of years with chronic diarrhea, which was contracted while in the late war of the rebellion; and though temporary relief was at times received, once visiting California, the dread trouble returned again and again. About 18 years ago a stroke of paralysis prostrated him, and again a lighter attack was suffered two years ago, both of which were recovered from nicely. About eight days ago, however, he was confined to his room, and there ended his life. The deceased was born July 31st, 1816, in Pownel, Bennington couonty, N.Y., thus being slightly over 75 years of age at the time of death. When a youth he came to Galena, Ill., with his foster-father, Wm. Burleson, who was present at his demise. In 1837 he went to Maquoketa, and had since lived in this vicinity. In 1850 he was seized with the gold fever and started for California, but are long returned to his home in Iowa. When the late war broke out Mr. Vosburg was one of the first of the noble heros to enlist 'neath the folds of his country's flag and fight for its protection. He was at Vicksburg, and was captain of Co. F.; 1st Iowa, which was organized by him. He was a member of General N.B. Bakerr Post, G.A.R., and the funeral will be conducted by them at the house tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mr. Vosburg leaves a widow and three married daughters; Mrs. Geo. B. Walker, of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. J.V. Bricker, of Charlotte; and Mrs. Tracy Barnes, of this city. He was a man of generous, noble heart, with a kind word and helpful hand for all, and will be sadly missed by his friends, who are many. He was a keen judge of horses, had been very successful in breeding them, and was known throughout all this section and in other States, as one of the best horsemen in the country.
