The Clinton Herald Thursday October 1, 1891 p. 3 Judge James McCoy of Fulton died yesterday morning at 10:30, death resulting from a third stroke of paralysis which occurred a week or so ago. It was permitted him to retain the full power of his intellect until a short time before his death. Tas a touching and beautiful thought that when the end finally came, almost sooner than expected, around the bedside were gathered only the wife who had been his helpmate and companion for more than 50 years, and their six children, the sacredness of the scene being unmarred by the presenceof a strange face or strang form. Judge McCoy's was one of the keenest legal minds which Whiteside county ever possessed, and in the early days he was one of its most honored Judges. He was an able jurist in every sense of the words. In 1870 he was a member of the constitutional convention, representing Whiteside county with good sound judgement and discretion. He made a great success of his profession, and what is more - of his life. He lived as a noble, Christian man should live, upright and honorable in all his dealings with his fellow men, of pure and untainted character, a useful life full of good works. The deceased was born Sept. 22d, 1811, in Greenbriar county, West Virginia, coming to Western Illinois int he earliest times, while the red man yet held sway. His golden wedding was celebrated three years ago. His six children are Mrs. Logan, W.J. and A.R. McCoy of this city, Doctor McCoy of Wichita, Kas., and Augustone and Edward McCoy of western Iowa. The funeral will occur to-morrow morning from the late residence in Fulton, at 10:00 o'clock, with interment in that city.
