The Clinton Herald March 17, 1924 p.6 Fred W. Whitney, for many years a resident of Clinton, passed away at Mercy hospital Sunday night at 10:45 o'clock after an illness of about three years with diabetes. Mr. Whitney was born in Higley, Cedar County, New York, on May 26, 1856. He came to Iowa with his mother when but a small boy. At first they lived at Almont and later moved to Lyons. He lived practically his whole life in Clinton. He had been engaged in business here for many years and was popular in fraternal circles being a member of the B.P.O. Elks and of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Left to mourn his passing are one brother, Charles Whitney, and two cousins, Mrs. Josephine McCuen of Chicago, and Mrs. Jennie Anderson of this city. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of his brother. The Rev. Harry E. Harned will officiate. The B.P.O. Elks will have charge of the services.

The Clinton Advertiser March 17, 1924 Frederick E. Whitney died at 10:30 o'clock at Mercy hospital last night. He was born at Hectley, Oneida county, New York, May 26, 1856, the son of Sarah E. Pollie Whitney and William Whitney. Mr. Whitney has lived in Clinton about sixty years. He came west with his parents when a small boy and for a time lived with his uncle, Hiram Polley, at Almont. One brother Charles survives. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon fromthe Charles Whitney home, 824 Third avenue. The Elks will have charge of the services.
