CLINTON — John “Jack” Clinton Schmalfeldt, 54, of Clinton, passed away Friday, January 4, 2008, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice in Bettendorf.Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 8th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes, Lyons Chapel, 2304 North Second Street. A celebration of life memorial service will follow the visitation at 7 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date. John was born February 21, 1953, in Clinton to John Matthew and Marilyn (Hanger) Schmalfeldt. He graduated from high school in Center, N.D., in 1971. John married Kerri Brown on October 25, 1975, in Center, N.D. John worked as a union painter painting bridges and buildings. He was employed as a custodian at Clinton Community College. He later became a graphic designer and was employed with the Clinton Herald and Ennis, Inc. in DeWitt. John was a member of the Eagle Club and was a band member of the Unidynes for two years. John was very artistic and loved to draw and design. He was a published songwriter and loved fishing, camping and canoeing. John is survived by his wife; one son, John Matthew Schmalfeldt of Iowa City, IA; one daughter, Rosalin Mary (Darrol) Aadland of Clinton; one granddaughter, Ruby Rose Aadland, one grandson, Blaise Vaughn Aadland, both of Clinton; his mother, Marilyn Schmalfeldt of St. Francis, WI; three sisters, Cindi (Dave) Murphy of Albuquerque, NM, Rebecca Schmalfeldt of Milwaukee, WI, and Michelle (John) Watters of East Troy, WI; and two brothers, William (Gail) Schmalfeldt of Washington, D.C., and Dr. Joseph (Annie) Schmalfeldt of Louisiana.His father, one brother, grandparents and one nephew preceded him in death.
