CLINTON — Raymond C. “Ray” Behrens, 89, of Clinton, formerly of Teeds Grove, passed away on January 2, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5th, at Faith Lutheran Church in Andover with the Rev. Shannon Witt officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Friday at Lemke Funeral Home, Lyons Chapel, 2304 N. 2nd St, Clinton. There will also be a one-hour visitation prior to funeral service Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Andover Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons: Jeffery Kroeger, Derek Dinning, Michael Anderson, Matt Hagge, Mitch Hagge and Justin Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Slaymaker, Dillon Jeffrey and Evan Jeffrey. Ray was born on July 25, 1918, in Andover, the son of Herman and Caroline “Lena” (Huebner) Behrens. He married Madeline Sullivan on September 28, 1940, in Tipton, IA. Ray was employed as a mechanic for six years at Huebner's Garage in Teed Grove. He enlisted and served in the United States Army Air Force as a flight engineer and mechanic working on bombers at Waco Army Air Field in Waco, TX, for three years. Shortly after returning home, he and Madeline began farming the family farm in 1947 near Teeds Grove where they raised four daughters. They retired in 1983. Ray was a member of the Miles American Legion and Faith Lutheran Church in Andover. Ray loved life! He loved working the land. He and Madeline loved going to dances and playing cards with family and friends. Ray was a kind and gentle father and mentor. He enjoyed everything he did whether at work or at play, and his sense of humor always lightened the way.Ray is survived by his wife, Madeline; two daughters, Linda (Lon) Feddersen of Swisher, IA, and Rhonda (Mike) Schult of Clinton; 11 grandchildren; 5 stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Voss of Clinton; and a brother, Wilbert of Teeds Grove.Ray was preceded in death by two daughters, Diane Belleville of Clinton and Darline Anderson of Teeds Grove, his parents, a sister and four brothers.Death date: Jan. 2, 2008
