DEWITT — Chester “Chet” Griep, 62, of rural DeWitt, Iowa, died on Sunday, December 23, 2007, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.Chet was born November 1, 1945, to Robert C. and Grace E. (Fletcher) Griep.He served his country in the United States Navy. He had worked as press foreman for International Paper in Clinton, Alcan Packaging, Bethlehem, PA., and most recently for Strine Printing, York, PA. During his earlier years he had farmed. Chet was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. He loved to fish, hunt and trap shoot; play cards, miniature golf and spend time with his family and friends. Survivors include his sons, Chad (Terri) Griep, DeWitt, Iowa, and Todd Griep, Port Byron, Illinois; his grandchildren, Christopher Peirce, Lyndsay, Jacob, Skyler and Shayla Griep; his brother, Roy (Mary Kay) Griep, Calamus, Iowa; his fiancee, Mary Grantham; his stepfather, Earl Paarmann, DeWitt, Iowa; stepbrothers, Gary, Craig and Les Paarmann; stepsister, Karen Salmon; stepmother, June Griep, Cedar Rapids; and aunts and uncles. Chet was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Trent.Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2007, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Pallbearers will be Chad Griep, Paul Keitel, Jim Gravert, Mike Hinrichs, Jerry Steeg, Richard Knutsen, Dale Henfrey and Jerry Steeg. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Oldsen, Kenny Hartmann, Christopher Peirce, Dale Pataska, Bill Hass, Phil Ehler, Roger Reed, Todd Griep and Steve Peasley. Family and friends may visit from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Memorials may be left to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or donor’s choice.Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, Iowa.
