The Clinton Herald Monday May 29, 1978 p. 10 Vincent John Maxheim, 71, 1105 N. 4th St., a former Clinton businessman and civic leader, who held several offices in the American Legion, died Sunday at The Alverno. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in First Congregational Church with the Rev. Paul Binder officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Snell-Zorning Funeral Home. Mr. Maxheim was born Nov. 26, 1906, in Clinton. He married Dorothy F. Howard, May 15, 1929, in Clinton. He was a national theatrical producer-director for Morehead Attractions in 1925-28; owned and operated an ice delivery company in Clinton in 1928-29; was operating manager and part owner of City Ice and Fuel Co., in Clinton in 1929-49; and was operating manager and part owner of Maxheim, Inc., wholesale distributors of beer and beverages, in Clinton from 1949 to 1963. Maxheim held several positions in the American Legion including national vice commander, state district, county and post commander, was a member of the Iowa State Veterans Commission and various local, state and national committees, including serving two years as state civil defense chairman. He also served as president of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, Clinton Kiwanis Club, Clinton Public Forum and Clinton Boat Club, and chairman of the Boy Scout Council, Red Cross fund drives, community chest drives and Schick Hospital fund drive. He was presented the outstanding young man award in 1941, and was a member of the Clinton City Council and traffic commission. In 1965, he served as public relations director-editor of the Iowa Legionaire, Iowa Department of the American Legion, Des Moines. In 1964, he coordinated activities for Riverboat Days, and in 1963-64 was involved in sales and production of the Mrs. America Contest. He was a life member of the American Legion. He was with the United States Army Corps of Engineers as a specialist training cadre and supply. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Carole Vanderweyden of Park Forest, Ill., a son, John H., of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; a brother, John F. of Clinton; and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Young of Houston, Tex. He was preceded in death by a sister.
