The Clinton Herald Thursday January 22, 1920 p. 6 Earnest Carl Jansen, son of Peter II, and Wilhelmena Jansen, residing near Elwood, was born at Hostrup, North Schleswig Holstein, Germany on February 13, 1886 and died at St Luke's hospital at Cedar Rapids Jan. 17, at 1 p.m., aged 33 years, 11 months and 4 days. On April 2, 1891 he arrived with his parents and brothers and sisters in the United States. The family came at once to Nashville, Iowa. They next moved to the old Myatt farm north of Elwood. Since then Earnest spent the most of his life in Clinton county. On Jan. 1, 1919 he was united in marriage to Miss Hazel Marjorie Glick of Lost Nation where Mr. Jansen was a proprietor of a garage. Besides his parents and ten brothers and sisters, Adolph, Peter, Henry, Carl and William of Lost Nation, Fred of Belle Plaine and Mrs. Mary Stoffiregen and Mrs. Minnie Franks, Wall Lake, Mrs. Henrietta Ketchum of Baldwin and Lillian of Elwood, besides nieces and nephews. He was baptised in Germany and confirmed in the Lutheran church of Lost Nation. He was a member of the Masonic Harbor lodge No. 556 and the Lost Nation Riverview Gun club also the fire team. Funeral services were held from the Union church in Lost Nation on Monday, Jan. 19, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.J. Snyder. The Masonic burial services were used at the Lost Nation cemetery.
