The Clinton Herald Thursday April 9, 1998 p. 7 The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church for James E. "Jim" Vining, 74, of 1004 Brookside Road. He died Tuesday at Samaritan Hospital South. The Rev. Brian "Pete" Hagglund will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Clinton Chapel, Snell-Zorning Funeral Home and Crematory where a 8:15 p.m. Masonic Rose Croix service will be conducted. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery, where the Clinton AMVETS Post No. 28, will conduct military honors. Pallbearers will be John and Jessica Vining, Jeff Roseland, Joe Mulholland, Allan Cousins, Robert Jones, Quinton Smith and Richard Herrity. He was born April 29, 1923,in Clinton, to Henry and Gertrude Mewherter Vining. He married Lilian Schroeder, Dec. 11, 1943, in Syracuse, N.Y. He was a 1941 graduate of Clinton High School and attended Syracuse University in New York. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Air Force as a lieutenant pilot. He owned and operated Builders Supply Co. for more than 35 years. He also served at the Clinton County Board of Supervisors from 1974 to 1988 and the Clinton Municipal Airport Commission. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Clinton Scottish Rites Bodies, the Camanche Lodge No. 60 AF & AM, KAABA Shrine, the Clinton Shrine Club and was a former member of the Builders Club. Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Diane (Richard) Roseland of Ames, two sons, James E. Vining II of Yuma, Ariz., and Richard C. Vining of Clinton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, John Vining of Clinton; and two sisters, Mrs. Norma (Axel) Martinsen and Juanita Vogel, both of Clinton. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Death date: April 7, 1998.
