Galbraith, M.R. "Mike"

CLINTON — M.R. “Mike” Galbraith, age 75, of Clinton, formerly of Bryant, died Saturday Dec. 1, 2007, at his home. According to family wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Inurnment will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery on Monday. Mike was born on Aug. 24, 1932, in Folletts, IA, the son of Henry and Elfrieda (Willer) Galbraith. He graduated from Elvira High School in 1950. He married Deanna Gilson on Dec. 8, 1957, in Elvira. Mike served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1954. He worked for the John L. Franks Lumber, Feed and Grain in Bryant for over 18 years. He also worked for Chemplex in the maintenance department, retiring in 1991. Auctions were Mike’s passion and hobby. Following his retirement, he co-owned B and G Auction in Preston, Iowa. There were very few auctions in the area that Mike ever missed. Mike was a member of the Miles Volunteer Fire Department while living in Bryant. He belonged to Clinton AMVETS Post 28 and the Miles American Legion Post 677. Mike is survived by his wife, Deanna Galbraith of Clinton; his daughter, Mrs. Cindy (Mike) Hoppe of Clinton; a son, Mark (Alison) Galbraith of Petersfield, England; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, Al Galbraith of Clinton and Henry (Betty) Galbraith of Pasco, WA; and several nieces nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flower, the family requests memorials given to the charity of your choice.Death date: Dec. 1, 2007
