Doris A. Hayes, age 73, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Tuesday morning, November 27, 2007, at Clover Ridge Place in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 P.M., Friday, November 30, 2007, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa, with Chaplain/Celebrant Rev. Ruth Ann Scott of Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. Service Time on Friday, November 30, 2007, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Graveside Services and Burial will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, December 1, 2007, from the Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, Iowa, with Celebrant Danielle Grace officiating.

Doris A. Clabaugh was born on October 10, 1934 in Stanhope, Iowa, to Charles Claybaugh and Goldie (Monson) Clabaugh. She was a graduate of Stanhope, Iowa High School and then attended Webster City Junior College. She graduated from Drake University with a degree in elementary education.
She married William "Bill" Hayes on June 12, 1960 in Stanhope, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1991.

Doris had been a teacher for over 49 years. She first started in Blairsburg, Iowa and then moved to Maquoketa, where she taught special education at Cardinal Elementary School, retiring in 2004.

Doris was a member of the Iowa State Education Association and the Maquoketa Education Association.

Doris was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan. She loved teaching and being around the children. She also enjoyed going to coffee with her friends. She was known by her family to have great enthusiasm and a person who was always willing to help others. She also cared deeply for her 12 nieces and nephews.

Doris is survived by: sisters- Diane (Ron) Miller of West Des Moines, IA, & Dorothy (Luverne) Jansen of Williams, IA; a twin brother- Don (Fern) Clabaugh of Stanhope, IA; a sister-in-law & brother-in-law- Jane & John Koopman of Appleton, WI; 12 nieces & nephews; & several great-nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents & her husband.

Memorials may be directed to Cardinal Elementary School.
