Gladys A. Schlemmer, age 86, of Lost Nation, Iowa, died on Sunday morning, November 18, 2007, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello, Iowa.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, November 24, 2007, from the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, Iowa, with Rev. Gerald Gjerde officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. on Friday, November 23, 2007, from Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa. Burial will be in the Lost Nation, Iowa Cemetery.
Gladys A. Nipp was born on June 27, 1921 in Clinton County, Iowa, to Otto Nipp and Minnie (Kuehn) Nipp. She was a graduate of Elwood High School. She married William F. "Bill" Schlemmer on June 1, 1941 in Lost Nation, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2001.
Gladys was a homemaker and had farmed with her husband in the Maquoketa and Lost Nation areas for many years. They first farmed in Jones County, then in Jackson County, and later in Clinton County, until retiring in 1976. Gladys had also worked for 15 years at Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa as part of the food service staff. They moved to Lost Nation in 1994.
Gladys was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. She enjoyed cross stitch, writing letters, and baking bread and cakes. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and caring for her family. She was known as a kind-hearted person, and a loving mother and grandmother.
Gladys is survived by: daughters- Myrna (Al) Putz of Orlando, FL, Joyce (Wayne) Schroeder of Wheatland, IA, Carolyn Schlemmer of Maquoketa, IA, & Bonnie (Michael) Weets of Lost Nation, IA; 5 grandchildren- Brian Putz, Julie Kurtz, Jeff Schroeder, Andy Schroeder & Ashley Weets; 6 great-grandchildren- Jordan Putz, Joe Putz, Logan Schroeder, Amara Schroeder, Ernesto Kurtz & Crystal Kurtz; & 1 sister- Myrtle Manning of Maquoketa, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 brother & 1 sister.
A Gladys A. Schlemmer Memorial Fund has been established.
