Shepler, Louis John

FULTON, Ill. — Louis John Shepler, 56, of Fulton, died Friday November 16, 2007, at his home in Fulton, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at the Clinton Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Pallbearers will be Dave Elkins, Mark Smith, Don Hall, Paul Meyermann, Curtis Farley and Gabe Huizenga. Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and his many close friends and family who stood by him in his battle with cancer. Louis (Louie) was born March 17, 1951, in Clinton, IA, the son of Louis H. and Pauline (Perk) Shepler. He graduated from Clinton High School. He married Ellen (Kraft) Stoddard on January 24, 1998. Louis was employed with McEleney Auto Center for 29 years, and was also previously employed with the Clinton Garment Company. He was a member of the Clinton Church of Christ, where he served faithfully as a deacon and then elder until he was called home to be with his Lord. He also served with his wife on the board of the Crisis Pregnancy Center. Louie very much enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and he especially enjoyed playing with his grandsons. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, going to the cabin and traveling. Louie’s inspiration since his illness has been FROG (Fully Rely On God), which he did everyday. He has a collection of a couple hundred frogs that were given to him by friends and family. Survivors include his wife Ellen of Fulton; his daughters, Jillian (Gabe Huizenga) Stoddard of Albany, Jamie Stoddard of Fulton; his grandsons, Gabriel Ray Huizenga Jr. and Gavin Matthew Huizenga; one brother, Alan Shepler of Clinton; three sisters, Karen (Dennis) Peterson of Fairbanks, Alaska, Willa (Jack) Murphy of Camanche and Dolores (Arnold) Dann of Camanche; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gary Bailey and William Bailey, and one sister, Donna (Leland) Farley.
