Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m., Monday, November 12, 2007 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook, Iowa ~ Vigil Service @ 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Springbrook ~ Rev. Phil Gibbs & Rev. Don Plamondon Concelebrating ~ A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held before the funeral mass on Tuesday at the church.
Interment: November 13, 2007 at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bellevue, Iowa

Donald John Gibbs was born on November 17, 1930 in La Motte, Iowa, son of Edmund and Gertrude (Entringer) Gibbs. He attended rural schools thru 8th grade and graduated from Holy Rosary High School in La Motte, Iowa. He married his dear friend Irma M. Mesch on April 10, 1951 at Key West, Iowa.

Don farmed all of his life, retired in 1996, in the Springbrook area. He was a member of St. Peter & Paul Church, where he served on the council, St. Joseph’s and Marquette School Board, a past President of Jackson County Farm Bureau, Extension Council, past Grand Knight of the Bellevue Knights of Columbus Council #1354, and a member of the Dubourg Assembly #1573 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Don was a 4-H Leader and had served on the DAC Board for 20 years. He liked to tell stories and enjoyed camping, fishing, extensive traveling, cooking and woodworking. He was an active volunteer and an Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Don is survived by his wife, Irma Gibbs, Springbrook; one daughter, Susan (Paul) Williams, Anaheim, California; 6 sons, David (Tish) Gibbs, Westfield, North Carolina, Charles (Laney) Gibbs, Davenport, Mark Gibbs, Topeka, Kansas, Paul (Sonja) Gibbs, Marion, John (Karen) Gibbs, Spragueville, and Patrick Gibbs, Marion; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Harold (Joyce) Gibbs, Bernard, Edmund (Karen) Gibbs, Cedar Rapids, Larry (Carolyn) Gibbs, Palo Alto, California and Steve (Mary) Gibbs, Bellevue; 3 sisters, Dorothy (Clifford) Weinschenk, Algean Budde and Mary Cheney, all of Bellevue, and a sister in law, Rosella Gibbs, Farley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Gertrude Gibbs, one brother, Lloyd Gibbs, and brothers-in-law, Eldred Budde and Larry Cheney

Donald J. Gibbs, 76, of Springbrook, Iowa, died on Saturday, November 10, 2007, at his home, with his family at his side.

Memorials may be given to DAC, Camp Courageous, or to the donor's choice.
