FULTON, Ill. — Frederick “Fred” L. Metzger, 62, of Fulton, Illinois, died Saturday, November 10, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport, Iowa.Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 15, 2007, at the Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Tom Loyal officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Clinton AMVETS Post 28. Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Murphy, Tim Blumer, Jeff Stoller, Frank Wiebers, Todd Metzger and Danny Phipps. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Dan Phipps Sr., Dick Witt and Jim Gorsh. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home.Frederick Louis Metzger was born on October 11, 1945, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Lawrence “Larry” and Mary (Ware) Metzger. He married Mary Benson on September 7, 1968, at the Evangelical Free Church in Clinton. Fred was a 1964 graduate of Camanche High School. He then enlisted in the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War from 1966-1969.Fred was a project manager with Clinton Engineering. Fred attended Evangelical Free Church. Fred is survived by his wife of 39 years Mary of Fulton; their children, Karla (Chris) Schumacher of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Todd (Melinda) Metzger of Bethel, Missouri, and Amber Metzger of Fulton, Illinois; seven grandchildren: Clinton, Kordell, Caycee and Kerrin Schumacher, and Megan, Daniel and Blake Metzger; his sister, JoAnne (Wendell) LeFleur of Clinton, Iowa; and his brother, Donald Metzger of Woodruff, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. Fred is preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Louis Schumacher; one brother, Wally Metzger; and three sisters, Arlene Wilgus, Genevieve Metzger and Margaret Grimes-Spalding.
