The Clinton Herald December 5, 1977 p. 12 George H. Raun, 89, who 11 years ago closed the 89 year-old Raun Grocery Store at 905 N. 2nd St., died Saturday night at Mercy Hospital. He lived in the rear of the store. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pape Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lauren Ashley Smith officiating. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Robert and Richard Kettler, William and Paul Raun, Don Leslie and Jerry Tucker. He was born Nov. 18, 1888 in Clinton, the son of Jens A. and Maria Lund Raun. He was a World War I veteran, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Clinton Consistory. He also belonged to Scottish Rite bodies and the Western Star Lodge No. 100 AF and AM, and belonged the Danish Brotherhood and the Izaak Walton League. Survivors include two brothers, Henry and Jens, both of Clinton. He was preceded in death by seven sisters. Raun operated the family grocery store from 1937 until about 1966. He retired because of his health. The store was opened in 1888 by his father, a cigarmaker who that year moved with his family from Apenrade, Denmark. Antioch, Ill., artist Don Leland Brown made a watercolor painting of the store in 1976, and has displayed it at art shows throughout the Midwest.
