The Clinton Herald Monday August 7, 1944 p. 8 Henry Todtz, a member of the Clinton police department since May 15, 1929, died at 6 o'clock Sunday morning in Mercy hospital. Sgt. Todtz was stricken by a heart attack July 21, while vacationing in a cabin near Camanche, and had been a hospital patient for the last 15 days. Sgt. Todtz who resided at 3002 Cleveland street, was promoted to the grade of sergeant on the police force only last May 8. The body will repose at the home. Requiem high mass will be said Wednesday in St. Irenaeus Catholic church. The Rev. E.F. Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus cemetery. Sgt. Todtz was born Oct. 22, 1897, in Clinton, the son of Fred and Caroline Todtz. he was educated in Clinton schools. On June 21, 1922, he married Erma Guenther in St. Irenaeus Catholic church. Sgt. Todtz was a member of St. Irenaeus Catholic church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Wapsie, Aerie No. 705 and Turner society. Surviving are his widow, four brothers, John Todtz, Minneapolis, Minn., Charles Todtz, Lost Nation, and William and Louis Todtz, of Clinton, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Fred and Albert Todtz. The Rosary will be recited at the Todtz home at 8 o'clock tomorrow night. Mayor William N. Judd today declared, "The death of Sgt. Todtz and Capt. Martin Duffy is a distinct shock to the administration and real loss to the city. Both men were capable and well trained police officers. Their passing leaves a gap that will be hard to fill."
