COLLINSVILLE, Ct. — Franz Jacque T. von Schneden of Collinsville, CT passed away Saturday, October 27, 2007, after a valiant struggle with cancer.

He was born Jack Thomas Spooner in Clinton, Iowa on February 3, 1944. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1962. He served in the Army Special Forces in Vietnam and later served in the Air Force. He earned his Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Connecticut and a Masters Degree from Central Connecticut State University. He was curator at the New Britain Museum of Art. He was a professor at CCSU; he also taught in schools in Arizona. He ended his long list of careers at Wild Oaks Market in West Hartford, CT as a teaching chef, joining his love of food with his love of entertaining people. An imaginative and creative artist, he also enjoyed books, fine wine, teaching, and any kind of conversation, the opera, and a good joke.

He is survived by his mother, Ruth Schneden of Green Valley, AZ, his daughter, Gretchen M. (Matthew) Hewes and his four month old granddaughter, Heidi Margaret Hewes; his son Franz Erik von Schneden (fiancé Chelsea Correia); his brother, Jim (Jill) Schneden, and their children Emma and Fritz of Tucson, AZ; his sister Fran (Loren) Wessels and their children Jeremy (Julia) Wessels and Katy Leigh (Luie) Ugarte, all of Phoenix, AZ and a number of relatives and friends in the Clinton area.

He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather and grandparents. Relatives and friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville, CT 06085 on Saturday, November 3 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. There will be a private family burial.
