Truax, Fredric Holm

Fredric Holm Truax of Clinton, Iowa, passed away at his home on October 25, 2007. Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 5:00 pm, Sunday, at the Pape Funeral Home, 2308 Pershing Blvd. in Clinton. Family friend, Dr. Arthur Donart, will officiate the 11:00 am funeral service on Monday, October 29th at the Community Congregational Church, located at 2300 Pershing Blvd. in Clinton. Burial at Oakland Cemetery will follow. Pallbearers are Ron Garrison, John Eisenhauer, Don Dawson, Tom Havens, Cody Pohren and Zachary Pohren.

Please make memorial donations in Fred’s honor to Community Congregational Church, Clinton Diabetic Forum Medical Associates or Mercy Hospice.

Fred was born on July 21, 1939, to Dr. Herrick W. and Vivian Holm Truax in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He lived, and started grade school, in Sabula, Iowa, where his father was a dentist. His education in the Clinton Schools began in the 2nd grade. Fred graduated in 1957 from Clinton High. After a stint in the U.S. Army, he married Martha J. Utroska. They shared 47 years together. Fred earned an AA degree from Eastern Iowa Community College in 1968 and graduated from St. Ambrose College in 1970 with a BA degree. Fred was a member of the Community Congregational Church and Choir. Previously, he was involved in many social and community organizations. Summers were spent boating on the Mississippi with his family and friends and playing the local golf courses. He and Martha enjoyed cheering for the Hawkeye Football teams in Iowa City . A kind and gentle man, his final career as a school bus driver was probably the job that gave him the most joy and fulfillment. Many a child was transported safely to and from school with Fred at the wheel.

He will be missed, and dearly remembered, by all of those who loved him. His wife, Martha. Two daughters: Jeanine Mauck and her husband, Jim, of Shanghai, China, and Laurie Pohren and her husband, Kent, of Mount Vernon, Washington. Five grandchildren: Mariel Mauck of West Des Moines, Iowa; Mallory Mauck of Iowa City, Iowa; Cody Pohren, Alysia Pohren and Zachary Pohren of Mount Vernon, Washington. His younger brother, Dr. Kurt H. Truax and his wife, Cindy, of Little Rock, AR. Brother-in-law: Donald R. Utroska and his wife, Candace of Lake Forest, IL. He had several lovely nieces and a nephew. His special young friends: Andy Ebensberger, John and Emily Bray, Chloe and Camren Cady and Joe Finn. Fred’s canine buddy, Buca, will be lost without him.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents.
