SUDDEN DEATH.

In scanning over the record of sudden deaths noticeable in almost every paper throughout the land one seldom realizes the pang they create until called upon to record the fact in the case of some near relative or esteemed acquaintance. Such were our feelings on hearing that on Monday, the 30th ult., Stephen Lockwood died suddenly. He was an old resident of Iowa, and living in Clinton County-a few miles south of Maquoketa, was formerly Treasurer and Recorder of that county. He has been for many years an active member of that society of the West, who, having the interest of the county at heart, use their energies in improving it. Our sympathies are extended to his family in their bereavement.
