Rouse, Flora Beth

Flora Beth Rouse, 98, of Clinton, IA, joined her loved ones in eternal rest Sunday, October 7, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center - North Campus in Clinton, IA.

Services will be held at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 3:30 PM. Visitation will be at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery, Lawton, OK. Additional services will also be conducted in Oklahoma.

Flora was born on January 22, 1909, in Durant, OK, the daughter of Arthur and Kate Lewis. She finished school in Colbert, OK in 1927. She married Floyd Rouse on January 6, 1928 in Altus, OK; he died June 1, 1968. Flora was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lawton, OK. Flora spent 46 years with the Rainbow Girls and received the Grand Cross of Color, the highest service honor for the Order of the Rainbow in 1970. She joined the Eastern Star in 1967 in Clarksville, MO; she joined the White Shrine in 1968 and had a dual membership with the Lawton White Shrine #24 and the Maji Shrine #26. She was Past Worthy High Priestess in 1985 in Clinton. She was also appointed Supreme Queen, a national honor, she was a member of Amaranth Court #36 in Lawton OK, she joined the Daughters of the Nile in 1981, she was active in the sewing club, Pyramid Temple #10, Davenport, IA; the sewing club for Shriner’s Hospital Charity, sewing teddy bears and clothing the children got to keep. She was very active in the mentoring program, the Study Connection, and started tutoring when the program was new in 1995 and participated for 12 years. She tutored math and English to 3rd graders every week. Flora had five children, Floyd William, Kathryn Florene, Grady Lee, Carolyn Jean and Joe Lynn. As a teenager she accompanied her mother and grandmother to the polls the first time women were allowed to vote and has had a keen interest in politics ever since. Flora started voting in 1932 and voted in every major election since. She received a personal invitation to both Jimmy Carter’s and William Jefferson Clinton’s inaugurations. Her name is at President Clinton’s Library in Little Rock Arkansas as a founding member.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Jeanie (James) Ooton of Camanche; Daughters-in-law, Camilla Rouse of Camanche; Mary Rouse Tucker of Albany, IL; Glenda Rouse Murphy of Farmington, NM and Son-in-law, Edward Hart of Camanche; nine grandchildren, Brenda Hart Post, Linda Hart Stalf, Roy and Sondra Rouse, Shala and George Ooton, Jack Rouse, Joe and Marcie Rouse; two step grandchildren, Steve Eickert and Diane Eickert Holms; great-grandchildren, Trinity Hansen, Jayson Kinkaid, Talia Voss, Zachary Rouse, Coty Beth Sewell, Jasmine and Danielle Rouse and Eddie John Luckritz; three step great-grandchildren, Peter and Rebecca Homes and Chanelle Rouse; nine great great grandchildren; Alexis, Kalista and Brett Voss, Dylan Rouse, Kiersten and Curtis Kinkaid, Caleb and Chloe Luckritz and Nathan Travis Sewell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Rouse; and four children, William Rouse, Florene Rouse Hart, Grady (Buck) Rouse, and Joe Rouse.

Memorials may be made to the Sarah Harding Home or Shriner’s Hospital.
