The Clinton Herald Thursday December 12, 1940 p. 8 Edward Metzger, 79, 2356 North Fifth street, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Jane Lamb hospital after an illness of about two weeks duration. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the family home, the Rev. Paul Bergdorf, St. John's Lutheran church pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. Mr. Metzger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorenz Metzger, was born March 23, 1861, in Dubuque but came to Clinton with his family at an early age. He was the last of six brothers and three sisters to die. Mr. Metzger was an employee of the M.A. Disbrow Co., from its beginning until the last whistle blew, his service extending over a period of 56 years, during many of which he served in the capacity of foreman. He was a member of the Lyons school board and the Oakland Cemetery association board, and was a charter member of the Woodmen of the World and the Modern Woodmen of America. Mr. Metzger was married April 4, 1888, to Miss Martha Ehlers who preceded him in death in February, 1937. To them were born four children, one of whom preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Alma Wilson, and Miss Florence Metzger, Chicago, a son, Percy Metzger, in Chicago, and a grandson, Frederick Metzger. There also are many nieces and nephews. A son, George Metzger, died in infancy.
