MAQUOKETA — Alva D. Shady, 70, of Maquoketa, died Wednesday at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.Burial will be in East Iron Hill Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, where full military rites will be conducted by Maquoketa American Legion Post 75, Maquoketa VFW Post 3633 O’Connor-Regenwether and Andrew AMVETS Post 62.

He was born March 16, 1937, in Wyoming, Iowa, to Clifford A. and Sibyl J. Carpenter Shady. He married Patricia Anne Bartley on April 30, 1959, in Tacoma, Wash. She died in 1994. He was educated in Elwood schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. She worked as a trucker, first with Allied Van Lines from 1972 to 1978 and then with AMHOF trucking in Eldridge from 1978 to 2005, before retiring.He was a member of First Baptist Church, Maquoketa.

Survivors include his children, David Shady of Maquoketa, Sue (John) Searle of Davenport, Terry Shady of Davenport and Cliff Shady of Davenport; a special companion, Stacey Linden of Maquoketa; brothers, Irvin Wallroff of Maquoketa and Vurt (Deb) Wallroff of Maquoketa; sisters, Marilyn (Bill) Earles of Maquoketa, Patty (Nick) Peiffer of Minonka, Ill., Carole Dodds of Maquoketa, Rose (Lyle) Rowan of Maquoketa and Verna (Steve) Flagel of Maquoketa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
