Brady, Helen M.

Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa. SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

MAQUOKETA — Helen M. Brady, 86, of Maquoketa, died Wednesday at the Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Maquoketa.

She was born June 4, 1921, in Jackson County to Henry and Margurite Straub Ihrig. She married Marvin J. Brady on March 5, 1941, in Maquoketa. He died in 2006. She was educated in Jackson County country schools and graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1940. She and her husband owned and operated a furniture store in Maquoketa, House of Brady. She then worked for a short time at Dolch’s Bakery, Maquoketa. She and Marvin then managed hotels and motels for five years, eventually owning and operating a Sears Catalog/Pack-N-Ship Store in Maquoketa for 11 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Maquoketa.

Survivors include her children, Darlene (Dave) Hayes of Maquoketa and Kaye Campbell of Maquoketa; one sister, Ruth (Don) Casteel of Maquoketa; one brother, Walter (Monica) Ihrig of Monmouth; one sister-in-law, Zana Fuller of Maquoketa; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
