ROBERT DROUET FOUND DEAD

Well-Known Actor and Playwright a Victim of Heart Disease

Robert Drouet, the actor and playwright, was found dead yesterday morning in his apartments at the Hotel Somerset, 134 West Forty-seventh Street. He retired at midnight on Sunday, leaving word that he be called at eight o'clock. When he did not answer the door, it was broken open, and he was found dead of heart disease. He was born in Clinton, Ia. and was 44 years old.

When he was 16 he joined a travelling theatrical company and at an early age became a manager and played in a number of Shakespeare's plays. Later he acted leading parts in support of Robert Downing, and then appeared as General Delarouche in "Paul Kauvar" with Joseph Haworth and Effie Eilsler. In 1903 he supported Clara Bloodgood in Clyde Fitch's "Girl with the Green Eyes" and later played in "Citzen Pierre" and made a decided success as John Storm with Viola Allen in "The Christian." Mr. Drouet played Colonel Jack Brereton in "Janice Meredith" when it was produced at Wallack's Theatre with Mary Mannering in the title role.

In 1906, Mr. Drouet appeared as Arnold King in "The Measure of a Man," and in 1907 played in "The Mills of the Gods." When "Madame X" was produced, he played the role of Floriot. Mr. Drouet was the author of several successful plays, among which are "Doris," "A Woman's Power," "Montana," "Tomorrow," "A Bit of Acting," and "The White Czar." He was a member of the Players and Lambs Clubs. Mr. Drouet married Miss Mildred Loring in 1897.
