SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday at DeWitt United Methodist Church. Schultz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

DEWITT — Darrell G. Spence, 80, of DeWitt, died Thursday at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Burial will be in the Rock Island (Ill.) Arsenal Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the DeWitt American Legion.

He was born Jan. 19, 1927, in Canesville, Mo., to George E. and Nellie Provin Spence. He married Marvene Baker on Sept. 17, 1947, in LaPorte City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Swiss Valley Farms in 1991 where he worked as an accountant. He was a member of DeWitt United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Kevin (Susan) of Alpha, Ill., Kipp of Silvis, Ill., Rod (Shavaun) of Milan, Ill., and Shawn (Susan) of Phoenix; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Winifred Lambert of Ramona, Calif.; and one brother, George (Marion) Spence of LaPorte City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to DeWitt United Methodist Church.Condolences may be made online at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
