The Clinton Herald Monday September 25, 1995 p. 7 Kenneth S. Armstrong, 83, of 500 Woodland Drive, died Saturday at Samaritan North. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Clinton, with Dr. Wayne C. Peach officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Clinton Chapel, Snell-Zornig Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Springdale Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are F.P. Stolp, William V. Core, C.S. Wright, Roger J. Shaff, Dr. Edward T. Carey, Al Peck and Allan Yeager. Mr. Armstrong was born Oct. 8, 1911, in Clinton, to Roscoe and Ruby Stone Armstrong. He married Ruth M. Kallhauge, Oct. 14, 1942, in Clinton. She died in 1972. He attended Hawthorne School, Northwestern Military Academy, Hill school in Pottsdam, N.Y., and Clinton High School, where he graduated with the class of 1928. He was an alumnus of Wartburg and Dartmouth colleges. He started working at C.E. Armstrong & Sons Co. in 1933. He served as its president and chairman of the board from 1951, until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Armstrong represented the third generation of Armstrongs in the hardware firm founded in 1870 in Clinton. He was active in numerous civic affairs and was president of the Clinton County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and president of the Clinton Mental Health Association. He served on the board of directors at First National Bank, and was active in the Boy Scouts of America, the Clinton Chamber of Commerce and the United Way Fund. He was a former Jaycee "Boss of the Year." He was a member of the Clinton Rotary Club, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church, he served as an elder and a deacon. He also served on the session at the church. He was a member of the Western Star Masonic Lodge No. 100, the Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies, the Clinton Shrine Club and was active in many business trade associations. He enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include a son, Charles A. of Clinton; a daughter, Gail K. Barringar of LeClaire; four grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. C. Sumner (Katherine) Wright of Clinton. He was preceded in death by a brother. Death date: Sept. 23, 1995.
