Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.

SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. E.C. Clair Lathrop, youth director at First Reformed Church, Fulton.

FULTON, Ill. — Mae Van Kampen, 76, of Fulton, died Monday at Mercy Medical Center– Clinton.

Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery.

She was born May 21, 1930, in Thomson, Ill., to John C. and Helen Engelkens Balk. She married Harold E. “Harry” Van Kampen on Feb. 16, 1950, in Fulton. He died in 2000.

She was educated in Chadwick (Ill.) grade and high schools.

She and her husband owned and operated Van’s Standard Station, Clinton. She also was employed with General Electric, Morrison, for several years. Most recently she owned and operated Van’s Cafe, Fulton, before retiring in 1993. She also owned and operated the Savanna (Ill.) Roller Rink.

She helped to raise 110 foster children while serving as a foster parent.

She was a member of First Reformed Church, Fulton.

Survivors include one daughter, Carmen Melissa Mae Van Kampen of Fulton; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Fulton Ambulance and Mercy Medical Center’s Dialysis Unit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.

Death date: Feb. 12, 2007
