Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston, with the Rev. Gregory Geier officiating.

PRESTON — Mary Ann Elliott, 84, formerly of Preston and Miles, died Sunday at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, Ill.

Burial will be in Sterling Cemetery, Sabula.

She was born April 8, 1922, to Henry and Mary Peters Gruhn in rural Sterling, Iowa. She married Alfred Johnson and later married Chester Elliott.

She attended Glen School.

She was a homemaker. She also cooked in various restaurants and worked at the Sabula Speaker Factory and as a home caretaker for the elderly in the Preston area.

She was a member of Preston and Sabula Senior Citizen clubs and St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston. She also was a member of the Martha’s Circle. In November, she was chosen Queen of Big Meadows Nursing Home.

Survivors include two sons, James (Linda) Johnson of Miles and Albert (Lisa) Johnson of Rock Island, Ill.; two daughters, Phyllis (Daniel) Jepsen of Miles and Mary Ellen Purcell of Doyline, La.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Gray of Sun Prairie, Wis., Frances (Calvin) Keil of Jefferson, Wis., and Jacqueline Giddings of Sabula.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one son-in-law, three sisters and four brothers-in-law.

Death date: Jan. 28, 2007
