Esther Taylor

In the early hours of January 26, 2007, Esther Taylor passed away in her sleep at The Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids at the age of 94. She is survived by her children, Barbara Sandys, Betty Peterson (Earl) and Mary Taylor (Eric Lam) and grandchildren, Sarah Peterson (Neil Everett), Molly Peterson, Mollie Lam and Emily Sandys. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother William Schlue, three sisters; Christine Thompson, Nelda Schlue, and Elsie Meffert. Graveside Services: 10 a.m. Monday, January 29, at Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton. Memorial Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Clinton, 621 South 3rd Street, by Rev. Herb Shafer. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion.

Esther was born in the kitchen of the family farm in Van Horne, Iowa, and she always said the best day of her life was the day her family moved into town. After graduating from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and marrying Dr. James H. Taylor, Esther and her husband settled in Clinton, Iowa, with their three daughters.

Widowed at the age of 56, Esther was an active member of Clinton’s First United Methodist Church, PEO and Community Choirs, as well as a buyer for the gift shop at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton.

Her grandchildren always loved to test her uncanny knack for spelling and to learn from her the best recipes west of the Mississippi. Esther lived the last few years of her life in Cedar Rapids, close to her family. Her sweet nature carried her through these last months when the strength of her body fell behind the strength of her mind. Her smiles, grace and company will be missed.

Please come celebrate our loving matriarch at First United Methodist Church in Clinton, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to The Meth-Wick Community, First United Methodist Church in Clinton or Iowana Council of Camp Fire Girls USA. in Esther’s memory.
