The Clinton Herald Tuesday June 5, 1934 p. 5 Clinton mourns the loss of one of its most prominent residents and civic leaders, Mrs. Garrett E. Lamb, who died suddenly at 8:15 o'clock Monday night in her home, 331 Fifth avenue, South, from a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the home. The Rev. Thomas Horton, D.D., rector of St. John's Episcopal church, will officiate. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery. Gertrude Ellis was born Jan. 27, 1867, in the old town of Lyons, a daughter of Lyman A. Ellis and Mary A. Buckley. She received her education in Wells college, Aurora, N.Y. She was married April 6, 1892, to Garrett E. Lamb in the home of her parents, and has lived in this city since. Mrs. Lamb was a woman of unusual personal charm and fine mental attainments. Her constant charitable work was a personification of activity and industry. She has been chairman of the Americanization class since its inception twelve years ago, when it was sponsored by the Daughters of the American Legion. Mrs. Lamb was active in the Clinton Women's club, and was one of its past presidents, the Clinton Country club auxiliary and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her unselfishness and utter disregard for her own pleasure in time of emergency was demonstrated during the period of the war when she worked tirelessly for the local Red Cross chapter in its assistance to soldiers passing through the city en route to the front. For a long period of time she has been a member of St. John's Episcopal church, a regular attendant at its services and active in St. Agnes guild. Her devotion to home, church, welfare work and friends elicited the commendation of all who knew her. The loss of a devoted wife and sister is mourned by her husband, and two brothers, Frank W. Ellis of this city and Charles F. Ellis of Los Angeles, Calif. She leaves three nieces and three nephews, Mrs. Mercedes Ellis Cottle, wife of Captain George F. Cottle of the U.S. navy of New York city; Earl H. Ellis of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Marie Ellis McDowell of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Gertrude Ellis Piersall of Los Angeles; Lyman A. Ellis of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Daniel E. Ellis of Los Angeles.
